For many years, fat was the bad guy. Foods with high-fat content were causing obesity. Fat was the first thing to be cut out of the diet. Go and take a walk through the yogurt section of your local supermarket - you will see dozens of low-fat yogurts, of all different flavors - its a highly effective marketing strategy.

The Blood Sugar Solution by Mark Hyman, MD is one of my favorite resources on this subject. Hyman is an expert on reducing the risk of diabetes and obesity, which he refers to as “diabesity” because of how closely linked they are. In his book, he lays out in simple, evidence-based arguments how our high-sugar diets are slowly killing us.
The Blood Sugar Solution is a science-based book that uses research to show how the American diet ended up causing harm. But don’t get bogged down by the science - Hyman also provides a roadmap for turning your diet around.
Reducing Your Chance Of Diabesity
The guidelines and practical solutions in this book really make it stand out. Hyman simplifies the science down to seven key points that can help you lead a less unhealthy life and details a revolutionary six-week program with advice on all aspects of nutrition and health.
I won’t go into each of the different chapters/contents of the book - that wouldn’t do it justice. The Kindle version on Amazon is really cheap right now, you should definitely pick it up and read through the nutrition advice.
There is also a version of this book that is focused on the recipes - The Blood Sugar Solution Cookbook. It lists more than 175 recipes that follow Hyman’s principles that are detailed in the original book.
Whatever version you decide to buy, I would recommend The Blood Sugar Solution to everyone. Even if you are currently leading a healthy lifestyle, there will be something you can gain from reading this work. Whether its practical diets or understanding the science behind diabesity, we can all learn something from Mark Hyman.
